Somatic Birth Preparation
Prepare for birth by building trust, connection, and safety within your body.
Birth is more than a physical experience. It can also be deeply emotional, mental, and connected to the nervous system.
Somatic Birth Preparation is a body-based approach that helps you stay connected to yourself, understand how your nervous system responds, and move through the intensity and unpredictability of labor with greater awareness and support.
Rather than teaching you how to have the “perfect” birth, we’ll explore how your body responds to stress, sensation, fear, pain, and a loss of control. Through gentle education and guided practice, you’ll develop tangible tools you can return to when birth feels big.
It’s less about controlling birth—and more about building trust in your ability to meet whatever birth brings.
A Different Kind of Birth Preparation
Traditional birth education often focuses on what may happen during labor. Somatic preparation also explores what happens within your body as you experience it.
Through breath, movement, body awareness, nervous-system education, positioning, partner connection, and hands-on practices, you’ll begin to recognize what helps you feel grounded and supported.
Together, we’ll create more space for:
- Safety within your body
- Trust in yourself and your instincts
- Flexibility when plans change
- Agency and informed choice
- Connection with your partner or support person
- Practical ways to work with fear, tension, and intensity
These sessions are gentle, grounding, and personalized to your unique needs, experiences, and birth journey.
Your Three-Visit Experience
Somatic Birth Preparation includes three private visits designed to build upon one another. Each visit offers a combination of education, conversation, guided somatic practices, and tools you can continue using between sessions.
Visit One: Nervous System + Safety
Our first visit focuses on understanding your nervous system and beginning to recognize how stress and safety feel within your body.
Together, we may explore:
- How the nervous system responds during pregnancy and birth
- The connection between fear, tension, and intensity
- Your individual stress responses and sources of support
- Breathwork, grounding, and regulation practices
- Body-awareness and resourcing exercises
- Previous birth or life experiences that may influence how you feel about birth
- Ways to create a greater sense of safety within yourself and your birth environment
This visit creates the foundation for the practices we’ll build throughout our time together.
Visit Two: Working With Birth
Our second visit focuses on body-based preparation for labor and ways to remain connected to yourself as intensity rises.
Together, we may practice:
- Somatic coping tools for labor
- Movement and intuitive positioning
- Breath, sound, and vocalization
- Touch and hands-on comfort measures
- Ways to work with pain, fear, and overwhelm
- Partner support and co-regulation
- Communication and connection during labor
- Maintaining agency and flexibility as birth unfolds
These are not tools you must perform perfectly. They are options you can explore, adapt, and return to depending on what your body needs in the moment.
Visit Three: Integration + Birth Mapping
Our final visit brings everything together while creating space for the unknowns of birth and the transition into postpartum.
Together, we may explore:
- Fears, emotions, or uncertainties surrounding birth
- Multiple possible birth pathways without becoming attached to one outcome
- Somatic rehearsal and personalized regulation planning
- Your individual anchors and grounding tools
- Advocacy, communication, and maintaining a sense of agency
- Postpartum nervous-system support
- Sustainable practices for the transition into parenthood
- Closing reflection and integration
Rather than creating one rigid picture of how birth must happen, we’ll prepare you to meet different possibilities with greater connection, flexibility, and self-trust.
Partner Connection and Co-Regulation
Your partner or chosen support person may participate in the process, allowing you to practice working together before labor begins.
They can learn how to recognize when you need grounding, offer hands-on comfort, support movement and positioning, communicate with you during intense moments, and regulate their own nervous system so they can remain more present.
The goal is not for your partner to have all the answers. It is for both of you to feel more connected, prepared, and supported as a team.
